The Latin American Contemporary Fine Art Competition

Marcela Guerrero is Assistant Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, where she recently curated the exhibition Pacha, Llaqta, Wasichay: Indigenous Space, Modern Architecture (July 13–September 30, 2018). From 2014 to 2017 she worked as Curatorial Fellow at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, where she was involved in Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960–1985, organized as part of the Getty Foundation's Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA initiative.

Prior to joining the Hammer, she worked in the Latin American and Latino art department at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, where she served as research coordinator for the International Center for the Arts of the Americas. Her writing has appeared in exhibition catalogues and journals including ArtNexus, Gulf Coast, and Diálogo Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Guerrero holds a PhD in art history from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Jaime Cerón is a graduate of fine arts from the National University of Colombia where he also received his masters in History and Theory of Art. His work focuses on five areas: teaching, critique, curating, theoretical research, and cultural management, which he has been simultaneously developing since 1994.

Cerón has taught in the fine arts departments of the following universities: Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Los Andes, and Academia Superior de Artes de Bogotá, Javeriana y Nacional. In 1997 he began to work with the Institute for Culture and Tourism, where he served as manager of Fine Arts until July 2007. He worked as an art critic and independent curator until September 2010. As of October 2010 he serves as an advisor of visual arts for the Ministry of Culture in Bogotá.

Lourdes I. Ramos-Rivas is President and CEO of the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) in Long Beach, California — the only institution in the United States dedicated exclusively to modern and contemporary Latin American and Latino art. She is the first Latina to hold this post.

Previously she served as executive director and chief curator of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in San Juan for 12 years. Ramos-Rivas holds a master's degree in fine arts from Illinois State University and a doctorate from the University of Barcelona. She also serves as an accreditation commissioner for the American Alliance of Museums.

Patrick Charpenel is the Executive Director of El Museo del Barrio in New York. A philosopher by training, Charpenel has worked intensively as a curator and collector, in Mexico as well as internationally. Prior to his appointment at El Museo, he served as Director of Mexico City's Museo Jumex.

He organized a Gabriel Orozco retrospective at the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City in 2006, and an exhibition of work by Franz West at the Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo in 2009. He also oversaw the Art Public section for the 2009 and 2010 editions of Art Basel Miami Beach. Charpenel has published critical essays in specialized journals and served as a Council Member for the Centre Pompidou–Latin America, Paris, in 2010.

Andrea Giunta is a Buenos Aires-based writer, curator, and Professor of Art History at the University of Buenos Aires, and Principal Researcher at CONICET, Argentina. She is also a visiting scholar at the University of Texas at Austin. Her published works include Avant-Garde, Internationalism and Politics, Post Crisis, and Arte argentino después del 2001 (Siglo XXI, 2009).

Giunta holds a PhD from the University of Buenos Aires and has been awarded fellowships from Harrington, Guggenheim, Getty Postdoctoral, and Rockefeller. Curated exhibitions include León Ferrari's works (Centro Cultural Recoleta, Buenos Aires, 2004), Verboamérica at MALBA (2016), and Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960–1985 at the Hammer Museum.
