Frequently Asked Questions
This page may be updated with new information depending upon queries we receive.
Required Material
Can I send a digital image of my artwork as an entry?
Yes. All entries must be in digital format. Each image must be at least 72 dpi and 200 KB; the shortest side must be at least 338 pixels; all entries must be JPG format; each image should not exceed 5 MB and 7500 × 7500 pixels.
How do I get a digital image of my artwork?
You can hire a professional photographer, photograph the work yourself with a digital camera, or scan it using a flatbed scanner.
How important is the quality of the photograph I send?
Image quality is very important. This is the only exposure to your artwork the jurors will have. A blurred image or one affected by glare, dim lighting, or unnecessary background objects will reduce your chances of being selected.
Should I include a résumé and statement with my entry?
No. The competition is judged solely on the artwork itself. If selected, we will request a biography, résumé, and statement for exhibition promotion.
Entry Fee
How much does it cost to enter?
Digital Display Category: $25 for up to 5 images. Classical Exhibition Category: $45 for up to 5 images. A $5 fee applies for any additional images. Once paid, your entry is complete and no changes can be made.
Are entry fees refundable?
Entry fees are only refundable if you paid by credit card and an error on our part prevented you from submitting your entry.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept PayPal and the following credit cards: MasterCard, Visa, Diners, American Express, and Discover.
Will artists represented by Agora Gallery have to pay the entry fee?
Yes. The competition is not juried by Agora Gallery, and participation is not included in Agora Gallery's representation. All entrants must pay the entry fee.
Are there additional charges beyond the entry fee?
If selected for the collective exhibition award, the artist is responsible for all shipping charges to and from the exhibition space, including insurance while the artwork is in transit.
Guidelines & Eligibility
Is there an age requirement?
Yes. All entrants must be at least 18 years of age.
Can I enter if I don't live in the United States?
Yes. The competition is open to Latin American artists, Caribbean artists, and artists of Latin American origin located anywhere in the world. All artists receive equal consideration.
Which media are not eligible?
Video art, film, performance art, jewelry, and crafts are not eligible.
What are the dimensional limitations?

No. All submitted artwork must be available for sale.
Are numbered giclée prints accepted?
Giclée prints are only accepted for digital and photographic art.
Is there a time frame in which the work must have been produced?
No. The only requirement is that the work must be available during the exhibition dates and available for sale.
Is collaborative work accepted?
Yes, as long as the collaboration does not exceed two people.
Is kinetic work accepted?
Yes. However, MPEG or QuickTime files are not accepted — please submit up to 3 JPG files of your work.
How will I know if my entry was successfully submitted?
You will receive an email confirmation. If you do not receive confirmation within 24 hours, please contact us at submissions@nyartcompetitions.com.
Jurors
Will judging be based on the actual artwork or on the images submitted?
Judging is done based only on image files in JPG format.
I was not selected in the last competition. Does that lower my chances?
Not at all. The jurors change between competitions, as do the artists you are competing against. You may also submit different images.
Results
How do I find out the results?
Results are emailed to all participating artists and published online on the official results date.
Awards
If I receive a monetary award, how do I receive the cash prize?
You will have the option to receive the award as a check or wired funds.
Can selected artwork be replaced if sold prior to the exhibition?
Yes, but this is pending our approval and only with artwork similar in style and medium to the selected piece.
Shipping, Insurance & Framing
How many monitors are available for artists who cannot ship their original artwork?
Three monitors are available. Each monitor may display up to five images of an artist's work. Monitors are provided on a first-come, first-served basis — please inform us as soon as you receive your results.
Am I responsible for shipping and customs?
Yes. All shipping and customs arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the selected artist. We strongly recommend insuring your artwork during shipping.
If selected, do I need to frame or stretch my artwork?
Yes. Your work must arrive framed or stretched. Frames should be consistent — not identical, but very similar — as works are typically displayed side by side. Artwork must be adequately wired and ready to hang.
Sales / Commissions / Copyrights
What is the commission structure?
The exhibition space operates on a 20/80 structure: the artist receives 80% of the list price, and the exhibition space receives 20%.
When can I expect payment for artwork sold during the exhibition?
Within 3 weeks after Agora Gallery receives full payment for the sold artwork.
If the artwork doesn't sell, will it be returned?
Yes. The artwork is the property of the artist and will be returned at the end of the exhibition. The artist is responsible for return shipping costs.
What should I do if someone submitted my images to you without my permission?
If you believe your work has been posted on our website without your authorization, please contact us with: an electronic or physical signature of the copyright owner or authorized agent; a description of the copyrighted work and where it appears on our site; your address, telephone number, and email address; a written statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized; and a signed statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized agent.
Do sponsors have the right to use my artwork image?
All participants agree that submitted artwork images may be used by us for promotional purposes only. Due credit will be given to the artists.
